A quote from 1930:
"People eat finicky nowadays. When I was young, we relished blood sausage, brains and eggs, sheep-head soup, fish-head chowder, kidney stew, and mountain oysters - all good, solid, nourishing foods. Yet today's youngsters couldn't be paid to eat them."
Mrs. A. Keller, age 98
The only thing that would concern me NOW is what those animals had been eating that might be waiting for me in their organs. Fertilizer and pesticide residue, etc. Wish we could get a straight answer on all that. I don't trust many of the green folks; much of their philosophy is just that - philosophy. But, we love eggs and eat plenty of them. Would love to raise our own. We go light on the meat; it's just too much for humans with short digestive tracks to digest. We love whole grains and mill our own. The more basic the diet, the healthier you are. . . . . Now, back to packing! Enjoyed the break with you! ~Liz
ReplyDeleteI wonder the same thing. It is clear that meat was eaten by Jesus and others in the New Testament, however I am sure the meat was pure and also I am pretty sure they did not eat it like "we" do now-a-days. It seems to be the main attraction instead of a condiment. I will use meat if I know where it comes from and I get it for free. Other than that, we try to stay away from the stuff.
ReplyDeleteYes, the more basic the diet, the healthier you are. We appreciate whole foods, fresh ground grains, etc. :) Taste good and good for you.
Packing huh? Are you moving far?
God bless you!
If blood sausage is what we in the UK call black pudding, then it's still eaten by plenty of people as a crucial part of a 'full English breakfast'!
