Garden updated

I'll have several blog posts today ... been collecting a few ideas and want to get them on here before they get outdated :)

Here is an update on the garden happenings. For other garden happenings, click on the label below this post that says: "Gardening" ... that will take you to all the posts that are under that label.

First, we finally got a few pictures of our larger garden at Hemphill's where the boys work. Hemphill's is near our dear friend Christine's house - Brianna and I help Christine out 3 times a week. I'll show those pictures first :)

Christine's cat, Tiger, really likes to dip his paw into the water that's meant for the plants. It's so cute we decided to keep the water there. Brianna caught him in the act with camera in hand ...

Here is Christine; she has become like a grandma to us. We love her very much.

Christine lives out in the country and has a few old buildings sitting around. Brianna thought this old barn door would make a good place to have her picture taken to give to her friends. Here is how that turned out:

And now on to the garden at Hemphill's. While heading to the spot, we passed up the boys working. They decided to follow us:

Here is a picture of one side of the garden - the right side of the road. (it has since been manured and potatoes have been planted, so it looks a bit different now):

And here is a picture of the other side (the left side of the road).

On our way out of Hemphill's, we passed David :)

And now back in the church parking lot; we need updated photos of the starters, the beets, kale and lettuce ... that will have to come later.

A tulip ... so pretty!

Onions:

There is a city compost site in town where we can purchase a whole bucket full of dirt (one bucket filled up the boys' work truck) for $10. Here is a picture of the boys unloading the dirt last saturday. They are getting more today.

They raked in the dirt well and then Corban built this frame so he can have the tomatoes vine up a trellis. I am not too sure what his plan is, but if I am thinking right, he is going to have one trellis (rope?) per plant. He's going to cut all the suckers and just have one main vine or stem per plant. That's a very un-technical description, I know. I'm certainly NOT the brains of this operation ... but I know how to plant and pull weeds!  :)

Corban showing how sturdy the frames are:

A look at the whole garden this morning; we have no idea where the hay bail came from ... it showed up last weekend. We are waiting to use it till we get the story:

Ok, that's all the garden stuff I have for now. Check back soon! Also, remember that I am posting a few other posts today as well.
